Course of Study

This will be a guide for you and your parents as to what we'll be covering over the first semester. This is just a basic map of how we'll explore the seventh grade social studies curriculum and what skills are expected to be gained at the end of the first term. I hope it is helpful, but remember, for specific assignment information refer to the two week syllabus!

August--Foundations of American Citizenship

September--Framework of National Government, The Constitution, The Bill of Rights

October--Rights and Responsibilities of Citizens, Political Parties, Public Opinion, Elections
1. Explain the duties and responsibilities
2. Describe the two party system
3. Identify types of interest groups

November--The National Government, Congress, Legislative, Judicial, Executive, Presidency
1. Powers of the three branches
2. Roles of the President
3. Qualifications for President, House, and Senate

December--Community Issues, Alabama Government, State and Local Law & the Individual, Individual Responsibility
1. Identify the factors in making public policy
2. Exaluate the responsibilities of citizens
